All costs are covered including uniforms, weekend trips and summer camps by the Department of National Defence.

WHAT DO THE AIR CADETS OF 396 DO?

396 City of Prince George parades (meets) on a weekly basis every Tuesday at the Connaught Youth Centre in the back up the green stairs located at 1491 17th Ave. On parade nights we learn a variety of skills such as citizenship, teamwork, leadership, drill (marching), range, sports and flying. Usually the older cadets and Staff teach the younger cadets the skills necessary to advance in the Cadet Program. Besides these weekly meetings, we also have various weekend activities throughout the year doing things like outdoor survival training, gliding days, sports, drill and range competitions. Being in a Cadet Squadron gives you the opportunity to try new things and meet friends who share the same interests as you. Many cadets meet life-long friends in the program.

WHAT KIND OF EXTRA ACTIVITIES CAN I DO AS A CADET?

There are tons of extra things you can do with 396 Squadron outside of Regular Training Nights. For musicians, we have a band which has practices every Thursday and performs throughout the year. There is a Drill Team which has practices on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and participates in competition and demos at our Annual Ceremonial Review (ACR).  Interested in First Aid, the First Aid Team has practices on Wednesday and participate competition and demos at our ACR.  For people who enjoy sports, we have a Biathlon team (Biathlon is a combination of Skate style Cross Country Skiing and shooting…just like at the Olympics) which practices on Sundays and participates in competitions with other Units.  We also have a Range Team (Marksmanship) who practice every Monday and participate in Regional Competitions. Do you enjoy public speaking, we have an Effective Speaking Program were cadets learn to speak in public.  Effective Speaking group meets for practice on Sunday and participates in competitions.  For those that are interested in flying we have a flight simulator program that meets on Wednesday nights.  Cadets learn to fly on one of 4 flight simulators and also get to participate in combat flight simulator games.  Cadets that are hoping for a chance at a flying scholarship course (gliding or power course) we offer flying scholarship classes on Wednesday.  This is a prep-course for cadets, that apply for glider or power, to get them ready for their exam in January.

IS THERE ANY OPPORTUNITY FOR TRAVELING AS A CADET?

YES!!! Every summer, cadets from 396 Squadron go to summer camps which are located all over the country. There is no cost to go and they run from 2-8 weeks long depending on what camp you apply for. When you have been in the Cadet program long enough, you have an opportunity to apply to be a staff cadet and work at one of these camps and make some good money! Summer Camps compliment what you learn at the local squadron and you learn new skills and meet a lot of great cadets!

HOW AND WHEN CAN I JOIN?

The first two weeks in September is the ideal time to join as it allows for a full training year. We allow youth to join anytime during the year, but if it is to late in the year the cadet may have to redo their level as they have missed to much by joining later in the year.  If interested in joining please give us a call at 250-562-0039 or send us an email for more information.
